Red Cross Sibiu Branch organizes summer camp "Leaders for Tomorrow", every year in the first week of August. During this week, volunteers will participate in trainings and workshops. The expected result is the acquisition of communication skills, teamwork, coordination and leadership, the acquisition of knowledge of first aid, international humanitarian law, ecology and others.

This year, Red Cross Sibiu Branch organizes the 9th edition of this regular summer camp on Sadu Valley, Sibiu, between 2-8 August.

Almost 100 youngsters over 15 years old, gather together to learn how to be better leaders. They come from different places to spend one week sleeping in tents, cooking by themselves and participating to interactive activities. The workshops will challenge them to think and act, proposing different themes from ecological behavior and first aid to peer education and motivation to be a volunteer. The rest of the program will be fulfilled by sports, games, a day program in Sibiu and social program around evening fire.

A mai trecut o editie a taberei "Lideri pentru maine"...o editie extraordinara, cu jocuri, cursuri, exercitii, aplicatii, invitati surpriza, spectacole...cu participanti deosebiti...cu parteneri deosebiti si cu sponsori darnici.

Cum a fost??? Sa auzim cateva pareri:

Cristina Bizu, coordonator programe Crucea Rosie – “Tabara <> editia 2009, a fost pentru mine, prima tabara la cort...nu mai stiu la ce m-am asteptat sau la cum m-am asteptat sa fie, dar cu siguranta, expectantele mele au fost cu mult depasite.

Reusita este rezultatul unei bune colaborari cu membrii echipei LFT, aceasta incluzand personalul angajat si voluntarii, care si-au dedicat in intregime ultimele 2 saptamani organizarii acestei tabere si fara de care aceast minunat program nu s-ar fi realizat.

Un rol deosebit de important revine sponsorilor nostri, carora le multumim din suflet pentru sprijinul acordat; deasemenea, participantii au fost dintre cei mai implicati si mai receptivi, au fost foaaarte ascultatori si foarte prietenosi. Ceea ce ma bucura este faptul ca, participantii au reusit sa ramana cu ceva din tot ceea ce noi am incercat sa le transmitem – iar munca in echipa este punctul lor forte.

Cu participarea tuturor celor pe care i-am amintit, aceasta tabara a fost un real succes.

Logistica a fost la inaltime, si asta datorita partenerilor si sponsorilor nostri (Centrul Chinologic, Total Protector), deasemenea, mancarea nu are grad de comparatie – doamnele de la Clubul de Aur i-au desfatat pe copii cu cele mai gustoase feluri de mancare!! Sponsorii nostri in alimentatie au un merit deosebit din acest punct de vedere (Danone, Boromir, Grewe, Hochland, Ibissstube SRL), toaletele ecologice au fost dintre cele mai chic (multumim sponsorului nostru TOT TOI & DIXI); copiii au avut parte de 2 spectacole minunate – unul dintre ele fiind sustinut de cainii de la Centrul Chinologic Sibiu, care au facut furori in randul participantilor, iar al doilea, a fost prezentat de catre Cavalerii Cetatii Rosii, Sibiu, care ne-au incantat privirea cu dansuri si costume medievale deosebite. Restul de materiale necesare, au fost achizitionate cu sprijinul neconditionat al sponsorizarilor in bani: Lupp Construction Romania, Universal transport Schmitz, C.M.I Stomatologic Dr. Adrian Popa, P.F.A. Ciobanu Ancuta, S.C. Lara SIB S.R.L., Phantl Backmittel S.R.L., etc.

Doresc sa multumesc, pentru implicarea in tot ce inseamna LFT – transport, mancare, depozitare, etc - sponsorului nostru perpetuu, Casa Morar, pentru rabdarea si sprijinul pe care ni-l acorda cu drag in cadrul fiecarui program al nostru – la cerere sau din oficiu :).

Deasemenea, nu pot omite o voluntara devotata a Crucii Rosii, doamna Rodica Vaca, fara de care ...lucrurile nu ar fi stat chiar atat de bine....si careia ii multumim din suflet!!

Primaria Rasinari, ca in fiecare an, ne-a pus la dispozitie spatiul care a constituit perimentrul taberei – si ii multumim pe aceasta cale!

Oana Olariu, voluntar Crucea Rosie Sibiu – “ Si a trecut si editia 2009 a taberei care, de ce nu, ajuta la formarea viitorilor lideri, a liderilor echilibrati ce pun pret, in primul rand, pe intelegerea dintre membrii echipei, pe buna lor cooperare si,mai presus de toate acestea, pe ceea ce inseamna cu adevarat o ECHIPA.

Pe de-o parte, pentru mine, aceasta editie a Taberei “Lideri pentru maine” a fost o reala provocare. Asa numita “munca de birou” dinaintea desfasurarii propriu-zise a taberei a fost un test al rabdarii pe care sper ca l-am trecut cu brio. In rest, adevarata “lupta” dusa pe “frontul” numit Valea Stezii a fost un adevarat succes, avand in vedere ca atat cei implicati in organizare, cat si participantii s-au dedicat trup si suflet activitatilor si construirii unui super grup de prieteni asemanator celor din filme sau povesti.

Pe de alta parte, ajutorul acordat de dragii nostri sponsori este nepretuit, mai ales ca fara suportul lor tabara nu ar fi putut exista. Fara nelipsitul iaurt de la micul-dejun sau de la gustare, fara toaletele eco spre care fiecare dintre noi se indrepta de cateva ori pe zi cu o maaare nerabdare sau fara biscuitii cei de toate zilele, fara painile cu seminte sau mici si albe, fara mustarul sau maioneza sau ketchup-ul care isi gaseau mereu loc pe sandwichurile noastre, fara toate astea si fara multe altele tabara noastra nu ar fi existat, ar fi fost asemenea mancarurilor carora le lipsesc“condimentele” ce dau savoare.

Iar acum la sfarsit, nu pot decat sa sustin ideea organizarii acestei tabere si in anul care vine, intrucat aceasta inseamna nu doar prilejul de a invata lucruri noi, minunate, ci si de a lega prietenii ce vor dainui peste ani. “

Paul Hirtoaga, Agnita - “Tabara LFT 2009 a fost cea mai frumoasa tabara la care am participat.

Programul a fost unul foarte atractiv: de la istoria Crucii Rosii pana la carnaval, de la prim ajutor pana la folosirea pistolului cu jet de apa toate au fost ceva interesant pentru mine, dar si pentru ceilalti participanti la tabara.

Organizatorii nu au fost doar niste buni oratori care au vrut sa ne trimita mesaje, sa ne invete lucruri noi , au fost niste adevarati prieteni care ne-au ascultat si-au incercat sa ne ajute.

Participantii la tabara au fost personae prietenoase cu care am putut lega o pritenii. Acest lucru a fost vizibil in ultima zi cand fiecare trebuia sa se intoarca acasa, cand lacrimiile si-au aratat “coltii”.

Clubul de aur al Crucii Rosii ne-a prins foarte bine. Ne-au fost ca niste parinti care au locuit cu noi o saptamana care ne-au dat sfaturi bune in acesta saptamana.

Sugestii:

Singura mea sugestie ar fi ca tabara sa dureze mai mult. Tabara este un lucru minunat, unde cunosti noi persoane, noi lideri si de accea as vrea ca tabara sa dureze 10 zileJ.

In concluzie pot spune ca tabara merita nota 10. Ii felicit pe organizatori pentru aceasta minunata saptamana care mi-a fost oferita.

Sergiu Helciug, voluntar Crucea Rosie Sibiu – “S-a şfarsit o altă ediţie a taberei liderilor de mâine, care a fost cea mai reuşita tabară la care am participat. Deşi vremea nu prea a ţinut cu noi, a fost excelent, deoarece ne-a pregatit pe noi, voluntarii Crucii Roşii, pentru o posibila intervenţie in

zonele frecvent afectate de inundaţii, unde umezeala este crescută şi in general condiţiile de muncă sunt nefavorabile unor tineri nepregatiţi.

Zona a fost acceptabilă deoarece am avut resursele naturale necesare si anume: apă potabilă, apă de spălat, si lemne pentru foc. Pentru asta mulţumim Primăriei Răsinari.

Mâncarea a fost din belşug multumita sponsorilor nostrii, la fel şi recuzita pentru cursuri.

Ziua de miercuri a fost una din preferatele mele, poate a tuturor, deoarece cei de la Centrul Chinologic Sibiu au avut o demonstraţie şi anume urmăriri, imobilizări, prinderi, pază etc.

Tabăra, intr-un final şi-a atins scopul prin cursurile şi jocurile sale, şi anume acela de a pregăti noi lideri pentru mâine.

Laura Mako, voluntar Crucea Rosie Sibiu – “Este a doua ediţie a taberei “Leader for tomorrow” la care particip ca şi organizator şi pot spune că asta e cea mai reuţită tabără de până acum. Singurele aspecte negative la care mă pot gândi ar fii vremea proastă care nu a ţinut cu noi aproape deloc. Am avut câteva zile ploioase, dar acestea nu ne-a impiedicat să nu ne ţinem activităţile. (mai puţin cursul de DIU.)

Joculeţele si workshop-urile au fost distractive, astfel, noi ca adolescenţi am putut asimila mult mai repede informaţia care ni se dădea, care avea ca scop pregătirea participanţilor ca şi lideri pentru mâine, scop atins pana la sfârşitul taberei. Mi-o plăcut tare mult tabăra asta si in mod sigur voi participa si la anul. ”

Maria Bonea, Agnita - “ Mi-a placut foarte mult tabara. Surprizele au fost foarte frumoase... Nu m-am asteptat la asa ceva. Pana si cursurile au fost distractive. Pentru la anul eu m-am gandit ca la cei care nu au farfurii sau furculite sa le dati la inceputul taberei si sa-i notati pe lista. Daca la sfarsit nu le au, sa fie trasi la raspundere. Astfel nu se mai pierd lucruri cine stie pe unde.
Mi-e dor deja de tabara. Mi se pare ciudat sa nu stau seara cu lumea la foc. Sper sa ne vedem si la anul cu noi surprize... Si cu DIU ;))”

Sunteti primiti cu drag, cu totii, in tabara noastra, numai si numai daca veti aduce cu voi toate materialele necesare :). Care sunt acestea???
- lanterna cu multe multe baterii;
- izopren sau neopren;
- cort;
- sac de dormit;
- farfurie metal;
- cana metal;
- tacamuri;
- pelerina ploaie;
- bocanci, adidasi, slapi;
- telefon incarcat :)
- servetele umede si uscate;
- periuta de dinti si pasta :))
- sapun;
- nu uitati instrumentele muzicale, cei care sdtiti sa cantati la ele :P;
- SI TOT CEEA CE CREDETI CA VA ESTE INDISPENSABIL PENTRU A TRAI O SAPTAMANA DEPARTE DE CIVILIZATIE!!!
Nu uitati ca vremea este schimbatoare...asa ca va rog, sa nu lasati hainutele groase acasa!!!!
Cei care nu ati scris pe formularul de inscriere data si ORA sosirii si data si ORA plecarii, va rog mult sa o faceti cat mai curand posibil.

I am glad I have choosen the camp instead of doing something else. The workshops were very useful. I have learned what luggage do I need when going on the mountain, how to protect from risks, discussed about Red Cross Principles and motivation to be a volunteer, and cleaned Steaza Valley and Paltinis.

I have also enjoyed nights, staying together around the fire and joking... those were my favourites!

I was afraid to go into the water first, but then I really enjoyed it.

It was a special camp, with all the games and the activities, I won’t miss the next one for sure!

The idea of leading the ecological activities and the participants in “Leaders for Tomorrow” 2008 Youth Summer Camp attracted me even from the beginning. I care for a clean nature, without polution, so I though “my own example will lead to theirs”.

We had some resistance from some participants regarding the activity of cleaning Steaza Valley, but, fortunately most of them enjoyed it and persuaded the others. Actually cleaning the garbage may be fun!

During the activity the tourists encouraged us, providing us with new forces to finish what we started. After two days of hard work, our purpose of cleaning one of the most famous touristic Valley of Sibiu County and building a strong team of participants was fulfilled. And what previously seemed mission impossible, now it was completed.

At the end of the camp some participants told me they want to multiply this activity back home.. Great! I can’t hardly wait the pictures :)

2008 edition of Youth Red Cross Summer Camp "Leaders for Tomorrow" was a great event, to benefit from superb weather, excellent participants and supportive partners and sponsors!

Between 3-10 August, in Rasinari, on Steaza Valley from Sibiu County, Romanian Red Cross Sibiu Branch and Colors Association, financed by Ministry of Youth - Local Department of Sibiu organized the 7th edition of a regular summer camp for youth volunteers.

This year, 50 youngsters between 14 and 35 years old, gathered together to learn how to be better leaders. They came from different places: Agnita, Bucharest, Hunedoara, Resita, Salaj, Tandarei, Tulcea and Sibiu to spend one week sleeping in tents, cooking by themselves and participating to interactive activities. The workshops challenged them to think and act, proposing different themes from ecological behavior and first aid to peer education and motivation to be a volunteer. The rest of the program was fulfilled by sports, games, a day program in Sibiu and social program around evening fire.

After 2 days of cleaning Steaza Valley from the garbage left by insensitive tourists, all the participants agreed that it's definitely better to prevent!

At the end of the project we would like to thank to our partner, Primaria Rasinari and to our sponsors: Albalact, Elio Prod, Extrasib, Simonis, Simpa, Tarpi, Toi & Toi, Metro Oil and Imperial Motors that help put our project into practice!

50 youngsters, between 14-25 coming from Sibiu, Ialomita, Bucuresti, Tulcea, Hunedoara, Salaj, Resita and Alba joined 2008 "Leaders for Tomorrow" Red Cross Summer Camp in Rasinari, Sibiu county. Full of energy, they want to have fun, make new friends and learn things about becoming the leaders. After getting to know each other, they have spent today cleaning Steaza Valley from the garbage that tourists left and learning basic first aid when camping. It was a beautiful second camp day! In the next days they are attending other workshops and games on topics that matter to their age: risk behaviors, why being a volunteer, peer education and principles. The organizers prepared a treasure hunt and volley championship for Wednesday. On Friday the participants are coming in Sibiu, for a city tour. You can meet them in the center of the city, on noon, when they will present a camp statement for their peers!

The 7th edition of "Leaders for Tomorrow" Red Cross Youth Summer Camp is about to welcome its guests!

Between 3-10 August, in Rasinari, Sibiu, Romania, youngsters all over Romania (and who knows, maybe from other European countries), between 15-25 years old are about to enter a marvelous experience of living one week in the mountains, debating on subjects that matters to us today (ecology, risk behaviors, peer education, first aid), cooking and sharing some great time together.

We expect participants that are over 15, involved in daily projects within their Red Cross Branch/ youth organization, active, able to use correct both Romanian and English and eager to live one week under the free sky. Of course, you will bring with you your tent, sleeping bag and proper clothing (take into consideration that weather is changeable without prior notice).

Camp fee: 50 RON (Romanian participants), 50 EUR (European participants). It has to be paid in our bank account after confirmation of selection and is not refundable.

The application form has to be sent on crsibiu@yahoo.com by 30th June! Selection will be over until mid July.

Wake up and smell the success! The Romanian Red Cross Society, Sibiu branch launches the invitation to join the summer camp 'Leaders for Tomorrow' that will take place in august (3rd -10th), in a wonderful landscape surrounded by mountains... in Romania, close to Sibiu, last year's European Capital of Culture.

Pack all the good mood, the sleeping bag, a raincoat (it's the mountains... you may never know when the rain starts falling), and all the initiative and creativity you may muster. Go to the train station, buy a ticket to Romania, get on the train and come. We are ready to make a leader out of you!

"Leaders for Tommorow" Red Cross Summer Camp, 2007 edition started with... the rain :) Ok, we have a long tradition of meeting it everytime we have the camp, so we were not surprised to see and feel it again. What we have not expected was to feel it during the whole week... this was a big surprise!!

85 youngsters, 15 to 29 years old, from 13 branches and sub-branches of the Romanian Red Cross (Braila, Botosani, Cluj, Giurgiu, Iasi, Maramures, Medias, Satu Mare, Sibiu, Suceava, Tulcea, Vrancea, Vulcan), 5 youth organizations (Close to You Foundation – Iasi, Voluntary Centres in Resita and Rasinari, Sinergii Medias, Nova Cultural Bacau) and youth from Galati, Ocna Mures and Cluj Napoca met on Steaza Valley, close to Rasinari village, between 29 July and 5th August, to spend one week of nonformal education in order to become better leaders.

They have participated to common activities, to discover Principles (of the Red Cross Movement, but humanity, as well), to gain leadership abillities or to improve the networking system.

This activities were funny, but serios, and participants showed a lot of creativity, team work and enthusiasm.

The exercises were followed by debriefing, and, of course, sweet "motivation" moments :)

Also, coming from different organizations, they had a space to present themselves and their organizations, a very useful exchange of information and experiences.

During the week, the participants were split according to their interest in 4 workshops.

Those in the art club gained knowledge about forum theatre or theatre of the oppressed. They learnt about use of art in social work, characteristics of forum theatre, the specific characters, how to "dress" a character, and created a play to present in Sibiu.

The creative peer-education workshop brought together all those interested in disseminating especially informations about health education to their peers.

This year the accent was on finding creative methods, more than on informations transmitted.

The participants of green first aid workshop had to face a big challenge: to find a connection between first aid and ecological behaviour and to clean the area close to the camp locations from the "proofs" of human beings who visited the location before us.

It was probably the most "technical" workshop, in which the youth created waste bins, with ecological messages, and used their skills to provide the camp with wood for the camp fires.

The persons in games for volunteers workshop have much fun playing all the time :) Actually, that is why they attended it... to learn about use of games in motivating volunteers and to experience as much games as possible.

This was not easy, due to the weather, but it was a beautiful surprise that they adjusted to the conditions and created a nice book of games, plus a camp song to entertain us during the evening events.

The most expected day of the camp was Friday, when all the participants came in the centre of Sibiu, to present their work to their peers. It was a very creative activity, where they had to put together specific moments of their workshops.

They acted, debated, sang and played with curious walkers... they made a nice suprise to everybody being on Nicolae Balcescu street in the midday :)

And, of course, we had pizza, a tour of Sibiu medieval city with the help of the beautiful volunteers from the local branch and a couple of hours as free time. Even the rain stopped on Friday, to let us enjoy the Big Scene!

The 2007 edition was organised by Romanian Red Cross Sibiu, in partnership with the Youth Centre in Rasinari, financed by the Youth Agency and was supported by the Hall of Rasinari, Emergency Situations Inspectorate Sibiu, Rangers Inspectorate Sibiu and the sponsors:

Danone, Agromec Avrig, Elio Prod, Extrasib, Icrasib, Novalis, Romado, Simonis, Simpa, Sitemani, Tarpi, Venturelli.

This year the European Cultural Capital of Sibiu welcomes you in another edition of "Leaders for Tomorrow" Red Cross summer camp. Guys and girls, hope you are ready for a hot play!

Title: Youth em'power!

Director: Romanian Red Cross, Sibiu branch

The story : 100 youth volunteers from Romania and Europe are expected to take their tents and sleeping bags, and gather close to Sibiu, in Rasinari, for a week-camp to gain additional leadership abilities to use back home. They will work together and have lot of fun, using intercultural learning as a tool to know each other and break prejudice.

The players: youth volunteers, 16-26 years old, active, dynamic, creative, English speaking, sportive, able to interact in an intercultural environment and to live one week in a tent under the free sky.

The scenes: we organized 4 special workshops, to choose from.

Creative peer-education. Educating our peers. About HIV, drugs or other health issues. Creative ways of doing it. ‘Cause you can do better than distributing flyers. Be creative!

Art club. Move. Talk. Debate. Feel. Dance. Stay still. Dramatic arts can help express great ideas. Show emotions and shape individuals and groups. Be artistic!

First aid kit. It's always useful to know first aid. And respect the nature. It might be that someday a wood will need a patch on it... Be safe!

Games for volunteers. And not only. We play, and change, and recreate, so that we have fun and get the motivation to do great things. Be involved!

The extra: a visit to Sibiu, a cultural declaration in the middle of the city, lot of sport and morning dance! Plus the incredible chance to learn how to cook, to start fire and manage yourself in a natural environment!

Romanian volunteers - 50 Ron
International volunteers - 50 Eur

In case of more participants as expected, we will make a selection according to the motivation, gender balance and organizations' diversity.

Dan from Sibiu says: "Being honest... it was the first time when I went in a camp, I didn't know how it would be, but as a surprise for me, it was wonderful! I can say I've learned some new things in every field that the camp was bassed on (workshops). As a second advantage, I found new people who, during the camp, become my true friends. I can't wait the next summer when the camp takes place again and we meet again (I hope so :)) and have another full drink of Frutissima"

Andrei from Baia Mare says: "In the workshop I've attended I've learned a lot of new things. In the first part we've learned how to survive in the wild with no food and water, hot to build a shelter and how to hunt. After that we've learned about disasters in general, how to react and how to save people from the danger. We've learned tips about how to atract sponsors. I will use what I've learned in the years to come because I will be in the disaster response team. I think everybody should learn about disasters because you can save a lot of lives."

Great camp, enthusiast participants, spectacular activities, good weather: 2006 Red Cross Summer Camp has passed so fast… 2007 is coming!

Who: 84 participants, from 15 counties of Romania, Bulgaria and Germany

Where: Valea Stezii, Rasinari, Sibiu, Romania – surrounded by mountains and forest, unpredictable foxes, nice Monday cows and goats :)

The start of the camp is getting closer everyday... the volunteers who are part of the organization team have already started to count the hours to the first meeting with the participants :)) Sounds exciting, doesn't it?
In order to make sure everything is prepared, please do not forget at home:
- proper mountain clothing & equipment: this includes at least a pair of good shoes (no high heels, please!!), warm pullover and rain jacket, and a clean t-shirt for the day we're going to visit Sibiu :)
- tent and sleeping bag: we want to make sure that you won't sleep with the bears.. outside :)
- plates: well, you want to eat as normal people camping on a mountain area...
- materials to present you region/country/branch/organization
- a photo camera and enough batteries... only if you want to have your own private memories.. otherwise we'll make sure that every nice moment is on the official camera of the camp
- your good mood :)
Please take into consideration that our camp is a non-alcoholic one.

How to Motivate Volunteers
The engine of a civil society organization are the volunteers. They offer their time and enthusiasm to different projects for the benefit of the community. During this workshop we will discuss about the motivation of the volunteers, and find creative ways of attracting and maintaining them. In the same time we will learn how to develop long term relationships.

Art Club
Drama in education is the topic of this workshop. We are expecting creative participants to brainstorm on the advantages of dramatic tools in educating children, youngsters, adults or elderly people and experiment them.

Peer Education Projects
This year we are disscussing about peer education related to drugs prevention and violence among youngsters: how to deal with these topics and how to use our creativity in developping effective projects for our peers.

Disaster Management
Disasters are becoming a reality of each day. Attend this workshop and you will learn how to face a disaster… if there is no potential disaster… then you will learn how to survive on a mountain area.
